How to make a chart from a CSV
- Open a CSV or TSV file, paste the text, or start from a sample. The delimiter, header row and column types are detected.
- Pick a chart type, the category column and one or more value columns. Choose Count of rows to count records instead.
- Split into series by another column, or tick several value columns, to compare groups side by side or stacked.
- Export a PNG or SVG, or open the data table under the chart.
Group dates by buckets a date column into weeks, months, quarters or years. Top N keeps the largest categories and can fold the rest into Other.
Frequently asked questions
Is my CSV file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and charted by JavaScript in your browser, in a background worker for large files. Nothing you open or paste is sent anywhere. Page views are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and never sees your data.
Which chart should I pick?
Bars compare totals across categories, lines and areas show change over time, a scatter plot shows how two number columns relate, a histogram shows how one number column is spread out, and a pie or donut shows parts of a whole when there are only a few slices.
How are rows with the same category combined?
Every row with the same X value is aggregated with the function you choose: sum, average, count, minimum, maximum or median. Totals and the Other group are always computed from the original rows, never by averaging averages.
Can it handle dates and numbers written with commas?
Yes. Dates such as 2026-03-05, 05/03/2026, 3 Mar 2026 and 2026-03 are recognised, and the day/month order is worked out from the data. Numbers like 1,234.50, 1.234,50, $12 or 45% are read correctly too.
Can I use the chart in a report?
Export a PNG for slides and documents or an SVG for print and further editing. Both use the colours of the current theme, so switch to the light theme for a white background.
